Famco Lighting Design Service

All Famco emergency products utilise state of the art technology to provide high performance, high reliability and cost effective emergency lighting systems. We have extensive research and testing facilities to design and manufacture products which meet and exceed the requirements of AS/NZS2293.

Our Lighting Design Service is extended to all our customers who require designs that will comply to current AS/NZS2293 Emergency Lighting standards as well as F6 and F8 of the building code, "Lighting for Emergency" and "Signs".

Using an accurate design tool such as AGi32, we are able to calculate accurate photometric predictions. By performing point-by-point calculations we can create a 3D visual of your project inculding the visual effects of lighting placement of emergency lighting and exits. By introducing the classifications of the fittings you choose, the software will present to you the effects of those lights, including quantity required and placement, whilst also taking into account reflective surfaces and natural light.

Compliance Tips - Did you know...

  • Did you know AS/NZS2293 requires emergency fittings to be tested every six months. By simulating a mains failure you must check that all emergency luminaires and exit signs have switched on. Fully discharging the batteries regularly will also extend the life as the NiCad technology has "memory". An automated system such as the MASTER MINDER makes testing easy.

  • Do your emergency fittings have a RED indicator light? Many luminaires are being manufactured to foreign standards and imported and sold in New Zealand as if they comply to our standards. Did you know AS/NZS2293 requires a RED coloured indicator which is always visible when mounted, so check to ensure the products you come across are legitimate in their compliance.

  • Some of you may have come across photoluminescent signage or "externally illuminated" signs. Although this may seem like a cheaper option, did you know that in order to comply with AS/NZS2293.5.6.4.2 an externally illuminated sign requires an illuminance of 200 Lux on the face of the sign at all times. Clause F8 of the New Zealand Building Code comments specifically on photoluminescent signs which require no less than 100 Lux at all times and that the lamp used to charge the sign not be LED. F8 also states that internally illuminated signs are preferred as they are more clearly seen in cases of fire and smoke conditions.

  • Is the face of the fittings you work with evenly illuminated?

  • Emergency lighting must be on for a duration of not less than 30 minutes (or more depending on the building type) and the batteries must not take more than 16 hours to fully recharge after being discharged.

NiCad Batteries

Here at FAMCO Lighitng we also distribute batteries for all your emergency lighting needs. We custom make any size NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) rechargable emergency light battery cells or pack for over night delivery.

We supply replacement batteries for all the common brands of emergency lighting and EXIT fittings.

The ambient temperature in which the batteries operate largely effects the longevity of their service life. Famco uses premium high quality high temperature (70 Degrees Celcius) NiCad's, ensuring we deliver a reliable and cost effective product to our customers. NiCad's perform well in low temperature and are preferred for use in long lasting applications.

We find that ours usually have a higher capacity than standard brands making the light last longer in emergency situations which enables prisons and hospitals to acheive the required two hours.
